It will largely depend on context, but it is the kind of question asked when someone has been accused of something and is being defensive.

A: We think that you have been telling our competitors our plans.
B [with indignation] What kind of player do you take me for? Of course I haven't.

It can also mean that a person has more than one boyfriend/girlfriend, right?

- Do you take relationships seriously?
- No, I am a player.
