What is the difference between serving and helping?

Serve yourself another helping of pudding - sounds correct. Is in fact not used
Help yourself to another serving of pudding - not exactly right. This is the usual way of saying this. "Help yourself to some more pudding" would be even more usual.

To serve = to provide someone with something

To help = to assist someone.

But "a helping" or " a serving" are specific terms for a portion of food served to a person.
