What is "junior high school"?

In the US, "elementary" or "primary" school is from age 6 to about 12, or kindergarten to fifth or sixth grade.

Junior High is is seventh and eighth grade (usually) while middle school is (usually) sixth, seventh, and eighth.

High school is your final four years: ninth through twelfth grade.

But it can still vary. Sometimes, middle school can include ninth grade.

I personally went to junior high, with only 7th and 8th grades. My daughters will got middle school, with 6th, 7th, and 8th.

So how about that, going to junior high then high school... or going to middle school to high school....

Here in the RP, we only have elementary school (1-6), then high school (1-4), then college years...

I went to junior high, too; it consisted of 7th and 8th grades. (And weren't we all that and a bag of chips back in those days? So very grown up!) Today my former junior high is now a middle school, and goes from sixth to eighth grade.

So do you still learn the same things in junior high and middle school?

If your elementary school is only up to 5th grade, then you go to middle school.
If your elementary school is only up to 6th grade, then you go to junior high school.

Are these statements correct?

Blouen, I would say that is MOSTLY correct. It would cover most of the situations I know of.

I'm sure there are some school districts with some other bizarre thing.

High school. The four years of high school are 9, 10, 11, and 12, known respectively as your freshman, sophomore, junior, and senior years. (You can also be called "a freshman," "a sophomore," etc.)

Those same terms also apply to college/university.

In most states, it's legal to stop attending school at 16, but you don't graduate unless you complete 12th grade. Most people aren't considered good job candidates unless they have at least a high school diploma. (There are exceptions, of course.)

Because here in the Philippines, if you have only graduated high school and that's all you have, you would only be working in restaurants and lower class jobs...
