What's the meaning of these expression?
1-Found herself awakened at the stroke of twelve each night by the rumble of heavy wheels passing in the street
2-Her husband would not allow her to look out the window when she heard the sounds, telling her to leave well enough alone. (just underlined part)
3-She stood spell-bound by the window as a gray fog rolled passed.
1 The noise of the wheels woke her up every night at exactly 12 o'clock
2 Not to be curious about what was happening
3 She was fascinated/captivated as the gray fog passed
