what is a direct object and what is an indirect object?
If we have a verb with two objects, one is direct and one indirect:
I sent her a letter.
I sent a letter to her.
In both cases, 'letter'is the direct object (= what was sent), and 'her' is the indirect object (= the recipient of the letter).
