Cool use of th gerund

Hi,

The gerund of "stop" is "stopping", the gerund of "get" is "getting" right?

The rule is to double the last consonant if the three last letter are in the consonant-vowel-consonant sequence. Correct?

But the gerund of "abandon" is "abandoning", same for "chatter" and "gossip". Am I still right? You do not double the last consonant despite the consonant-vowel-consonant sequence. Why? Does it have something to do with the length of the word?

Default Re: use of th gerund

The rule is that the accent is on the last syllable.

"Abandon" doesn't have an accent on the last syllable, so you have "abandoning".

The accent is:

on the first syllable.
visit -> visiting
limit -> limiting

on the last syllable.
admit -> admitting
omit-> omitting

I hope this will help.
