Default safe - safely

In school we're supposed to write an essay and now a friend wants to know which of following sentences is right and why.
Or if you would suggest any other sentences.

After she had got drunk, we got her home safe.
After she had got drunk, we got her home safely.

TIA

Default Re: safe - safely

While both are English, safely described how you got her home, whereas safe describes that she is safe at home. Alternatively, there's we got her home safe and sound.
