Default What is it called in English?

Hello Everyone,

When holding a newly-picked leaves under the light, one will see lots of lines in it, through which plant nutrition is carried. I would like to know what it is called in English? Stem?

Similarly in Chinese Medicine, channels , in which energy is transmitted , is believed to exist in human body. Such channels have also been confirmed by professionals of the Western Medicine , as far as I know. However, the tubes ,which connect different human organs and segments, is invisible to modern medical equipment and human eyes. I would like to know here what it is called in English. Some of our chinese often translate it to meridian. Is it proper?

Waiting for your comments?

Regards

Sky
