Hi,
I have seen older people addresing younger men as "son" in movies.
The younger man may or may not be their real son.
Is there an equivalent addressing word for girls or young women?
Or is it just "miss"?
Thank you.
Possibly "Missy".
Or sometimes 'poppet'. (The pirates in the first Pirates of the Caribbean use this when they're looking for the governor's daughter and find her in the wardrobe: 'Come out, poppet'.) Also, you may come across these two - avoided recently as sexist: 'love' and 'dear'. Even 'darling', come to that (although maybe that's woman-to-man - prostitutes in costume dramas are always saying "'Ello darlin'. Lookin' for some fun, are we?").

I have heard "missy" on TV, but I haven't heard "poppet" so far.
Thank you.
