I am reviewing the use and my understanding of the subjunctive. However some of the answers on the test that I undertook leave me confused. The answers provided are:-
- It's important that she remember to take her medicine twice a day.
- I suggest that Frank read the directions carefully before assembling the bicycle. He doesn't want the wheels to fall off while he is riding down a hill.
- It is necessary that a life guard be monitoring the swimming pool while the children are taking their swimming lessons.
- The sign at the pool recommended that you not swim after eating a large meal.
Is the verb form in the first and sentence sentences not remembers and reads ? In sentence 3 be monitoring does not come naturally to me, I was thinking it should be "monitors" and for sentence 4 I want to add the word do - "you do not"
I would be grateful for an explanation as to why these answers are correct.
Many thanks
