    Please help me clarify this sentence!

    I checked it . It is just that. The writer is a native english too( a literary critic).

    Ok - I've now read it again (several times) and it has begun to make sense.

    None of these fables is grand [in nature] because it operates by [within] a single logic any more than Middlemarch [is grand because it operates within a single logic]

    I hope this makes sense!
