Don't be afraid. :D I wouldn't want to live on top of Fuji San. For one thing, there's the crator to contend with

, and for another there's the cloud cover.
I can see Mt Fuji--on a clear day. I live in Shizuoka-ken, which, as you probably know, is the same prefecture in which Mt Fuji is located. I live in a small town outside of Hamamatsu, called Toyoda.
