I am still in doubt about "to flee".
I wrote these two sentences in an essay:
- The prisoner fled from jail the day before the trial.
- The girl fled her house because she couldnīt put up with her authoritarian parents.
In the first one, my teacher corrected for "escaped". He said to flee canīt be used in this situation. (though I found some similar sentences on the net- serached in google). I wonder why it is wrong. (I wonīt have the chance to talk to this teacher again!).
In the second one, he crossed "fled", and wrote "ran away". Iīve checked in many dictionaries and some of them say it must be used literally, or that itīs too formal, etc.
I am completely confused now.
Thanks for your help, in advance.
Re: TO FLEE
Your teacher's choices were fine. But there was nothing wrong with "fled" either.
