Question Sears Roebuck lathe?

Hello,

I'm listening to the audio commentary of "EARTH VS. THE FLYING SAUCERS".
They talk about the colorized version.

Someone asks who designed the saucer, and Harryhausen says
"I designed and my father made it on a Sears Roebuck lathe".

Could you please explain what "Sears Roebuck lathe" is?
I know there is a company named Sears Roebuck.
Does the company has anything to do with it?

Thank you,
Tara

Sears and Roebuck is a large department store chain in the US, known for their line of tools. A lathe is a machine that spins a block of material to create an object. More info here.

Question Re: Sears Roebuck lathe?

Hello Ouisch,

Thank you very much for your kind explanation.

I'm still not sure what he means, though.
Does he mean his father made a miniture model of flying saucer
on the machine named lathe which was sold by Sears and Roebuck?

Thank you,
Tara
