Default Re: how to form nouns from verbs?????

There aren't any rules that can be applied to all verbs.
If you weld, you have a weld.
If you bake, you have a baked item.
If you sew, you have something that was sewn.
If you plant, you have a crop, and later a harvest.
If you harvest, you have a harvest.

So as you can see, no rule will work for any verb.

You form nouns from verbs by using the gerund or infinitive forms of the verb.

I like playing. [Playing is the gerund form of the verb play and as a noun it is the object of the sentence]

I like to play
[To play is the infinitive form of the verb play and as a noun it is the object of the sentence]

There are many rules that must be followed when deciding to use an infinitive or gerund in a sentence. Sometimes both are acceptable but sometimes only a gerund or only an infinitive can be used.
