Default Will you say "Can I make a reservation?"?

Will you say "Can I make a reservation?" when you're a walk-in visitor in a hotel? I think making a reservation is that you ask for reserving the place for you before your arrival (by email or phone or whatever). Well, I'm not sure if I'm right. Please help and thanks for every explanation.

In person, you'd say 'Can I/I'd like to book a room'.

Yes, I agree. But if I am planning to come back again, maybe I can say this way… can’t I?

Certainly. As you were checking out you could say something like '...and I'd like to make a reservation for next time...' [and give the details].
