Hi all,
Please help me understand the following sentence.
The usage of ' unless' gets me confused.
#1 She will pass the exam unless she is lazy. (correct?)
The sentence means that she will pass the exam, if she learns hard or she is not lazy.(correct?)
If my understanding of the sentence is completely incorrect, please lead me to the right path.
Thanks a lot in advance.
Hi,
The sentence means that she will pass the exam if she is not lazy.
'Unless' means "except on the condition that"; so if she is lazy (this is the condition in this sentence) she will not pass the exam.
I hope it helps,
Iza
