I think you mean "work out the kinks"

This means to get rid of small problems in some procedure. You would have to give us a sample sentence to say any more.

Yeah it's "kinks" probably not "canks". As I said, I heard that in a movie, so there was a 50-50 chance I'd spell that correctly.
