'two pairs' of something
is it wrong to say (as a grammar book says) that you have 2 pairs or 3, as the case in plural may be, of shoes or whatever? Is 'I have 3 pairs of shoes' wrong, grammmatically?
To me it seems perfectly ok.

It is perfectly ok. (but put a period after ''shoes'')

Lose that grammar book! What else could you say? 'I have 6 shoes, 3 left and 3 right, with each of the 3 matching 1 of the other 3'?
