    Smile finished gardening

After he'd finished gardening, he cleared dirt from his boots.

Does the above sentence sound right and good? If yes, how do you paraphrase the phrase in bold? Thanks.

    Thanks, Soup.
By the way, does it sound right to say "clean the dirt from his boots?"

Your suggestions sound perfect to me but mine also sounds good to me--clean the dirt from his boots. If mine doesn't sound right, then English is really hard, right?

You use the past tense for "clean" since it is in parallel with the verb "finished"

After he'd finished gardening, he cleans his boots.
After he'd finished gardening, he cleaned his boots.

    But you could say
After finishing his gardening he cleans his boots .

No one said learning English was easy

    Thanks, Naamplao.
It's a typo--cleaned, but my main concern is about "from his boots?"
That is, does "cleaned the dirt from his boots" sound right?

Listen, I speak more than just a few languages, but Chinese, well, lemme tell ya, it is as hard as it gets, so don't even go there about English being really hard. You can speak Chinese.

That makes two of us! English is hard for us because it's way way different from Chinese. With your words in mind, I'll keep up the good work.
    Thanks again, Soup.
    And good night!
