I have never really heard of a "heavy suit" but I would imagine it to be one made of wool.

"False money" is not a common expression at all. It would mean paper made to look like money but it is not legal tender...in other words it is counterfeit money

Doing something the hard way means that there was easier methods of accomplishing the objective. If you learn the hard way then you are making a lot of mistakes before you get it right.
