in the mind
Hi there,
I want to know how to use 'in the mind' and 'on the mind' in British English and American English?
For example,
What is in your mind? OR What is on your mind?
thanks

What is on your mind? is a question you ask someone when you want to know what they are thinking about.
"In" is used in the following way
He was not in his right mind when he committed the murder.
In other words he was not acting normally.

Re: in the mind
Hi there,
Thanks a lot.
What is the meaning of 'in mind' in the following sentence:
1. He already had in mind what he was going to do.
Is it correct to say:
2. Some ideas are on/ in my mind now. (any difference between 'on' and 'in'?
3. Some ideas come to my mind now.
many thanks

Means he had thought about the problem and knew what he was going to do.

2. Some ideas are

I think sentence #2 is awkward with both on or in But if I had to make a choice I would choose on.
A much better way the meaning of sentence #2 is
I have some ideas in my head right now.
3. Some ideas come to my mind now.
Some ideas come to mind now. (This of course is Speaking English in both cases and the "my" is implied when you are speaking.)
many thanks
