By definition
Immigrants are seemed to be regarded by definition as a burden on society, but this could not be further from the truth.
In other words some people seem to think of all immigrants to be like this without looking at individual cases. They refuse to think of individuals when it comes to immigrants and think they are all alike.
taken for granted
Sometimes I feel taken for granted when I get no thanks for being a volunteer at this organization.
In other words you don't feel you are being appreciated for working there and people are just using you.
take for granted
My son takes for granted that I will allow him unlimited use of the computer.
In other words my son believes that he has the right to use the computer any time he wants and I should not interfere.
