A house is the building where people live.
A home is more than just the building. It includes the feeling of being in a safe friendly environment with family.

There is a saying that I heard once that goes something like this;

"A man builds a house, a woman makes a home."

A house is a building and a home is the place where a person (or many people) lives. In North America many people live in houses that are the homes of just one family, or even just one person. So those houses are also their homes.

But a home can be many other things: an apartment unit in a large apartment building, a room in a hotel, a cardboard box under a bridge, etc.
