Question Adjectives That Look Like Adverbs

Hello,

I'm new here and have just being browsing around. I already have a question. After looking at the section, 'Adjectives That look Like Adverbs' I'm wondering if you could explain further how we can identify that they are not adverbs, as they end in 'ly'?

Thanks for any advice

Dear Merlosa,
Not all words ending in -ly can be considered as adverbs. It depends on how we use it in a sentence. For example, the underlined word in the first sentence is an adjective and the second one is an adverb.
She talked to me in a friendly way.
She talked to me politely.
You can see more examples by consulting a good dictionary.

Additionally,

Some words have the same form whether used as adjectives or adverbs:

He is a fast driver.- adjective. It modifies the noun driver

He drives fast. - adverb. It modifies the verb drives.

He is a hard worker - adjective

He works hard. - adverb
