ESL for Hearing Impaired Student

Hello! What a great site!

I have a problem and I'm hoping someone can help me.

I am teaching a family from Vietnam and there is a 17 year old boy who is partially deaf. He has a hearing aid, but it is a recent aquisition....SO..he seems to be shaky in Vietnamese and English is extremely difficult for him.

I have started some intensive speech therapy, the phonetic alphabet and a lot of writing. However, I really need advice and tips from someone who has encountered this or a similar situation.
