Wink Newbie on sociolinguistics research project

I have to start a sociolinguistics research project. Can you give me some suggestions on the topics of the research? I want to focus on the area of comparing the language uses (e.g. lexical density, grammatical complexity) within different sections of newspaper/magazine. Or comparing language uses of different newspaper/magazine.

I have tried to search but still don't have much ideas now.

Can anyone think of any topics for me?

Thanks!

Friedman

A real thrill!!!:
You can work on the syntagmatic line as you suggested it. You could also opt for the paradigmatic dimension Newspaper/ magazine are treasures of linguistic clusters linked to mythological codes.
the relations between images / texts, the lay out , redundancy, distortion? The semiotic is also to be taken into account.
Lexicology is a hint too ( levels - loanwords)
The magazine as an object internal links ( phoricity... )
Speech acts...
