symbol/icon/logo/avartar
Soon other products bearing the superman symbol hit the market, and it wasn't long before the superhero was the star of his own television show.
I have problem in distinguishing symbol from icon, logo, and avartar. Could you describe their basic differences in a few words? Thanks.

Re: symbol/icon/logo/avartar
As far as I know;
Logo: graphic symbol which represents a company or organization.
Visual Example:Microsoft Windows Logo

Generally, Logos > Avatars (Not always)
Avatar: (Internet) online image that represents a user in chat rooms or in a virtual "space".
Ex: Your msn messenger display picture can be your avatar. or can be something like below.

Icons: small graphic symbol which symbolizes a program or file in a graphical user interface (Computers); or there are emoticons whic describes the users feeling visiully.
Generally Logos>avatars>icons
Computer Icons.

Emoticons;

And symbol is a more general term,
I am neither a NES nor a Teacher , if I am wrong please correct me

Re: symbol/icon/logo/avartar
An icon has three meanings: a devotional portrayal of Christ or another holy figure; someone regarded with admiration/devotion; and in computing the graphic representation of a program on a screen.
A logo is an emblem adopted by an organization to identify itself and/or its products [Here is Apple Computers' logo: http://tinyurl.com/2o2tzm ]
An avatar is is technically a Hindu deity in bodily form; it also means the physical embodiment of an idea (a personification - for instance, the image of Britannia for Great Britain).
In computing terms it means a digital representation of a person or a being.
