Default Half-general phrase in the use of articles

I would be appreciate it if you could tell me what the meaning of "half-general" phrase is in the following example, so that the definite article is not used in front of these kinds of words:

"(The) Modern children have been indulged in playing (the) online computer games these days.

    A thousand thanks.

Default Re: Half-general phrase in the use of articles

Not all children, but modern children and not all computer games, but online ones; they are both restricted but still general enough not to require an article.
