Default Re: Talk and tell

"Talk" = speak in order to give information or express ideas or feelings

"Tell" = communicate something to someone

Tell me now is more of a demand for specific information.

A parent confronts his child about theft of some money.

"Look, I know that you are not telling me the truth. You can't look me in the eyes, can you? Tell me now what you know about this money. I'll understand but if I find out that you are not telling the truth again you will be in big trouble."

Talk to me is more of a request to have another person communicate more with you.

"Linda, you have been moody for the last week or so. Is there something wrong between you and Bob? Talk to me, dear. I can help. Staying moody like this will make you sick."

That is the difference for me.
