Default Double full stops

Is it possible to, in certain circumstances, to have two full stops (periods) in a single sentence? For instance: 'He said to me,"Don't do that." but I just ignored him.' Or should it be, 'He said to me, "Don't do that" but I just ignored him.'?
Also, is it possible to have two sentences in one (as above) and retain the two capital letters. Or should it read 'don't do that' so as to avoid the extra capital letter within a sentence?

Thanks

Welcome to the forums.

Where a sentence is quoted, unless there is an exclamation mark or a question mark, the punctuation is not included:

"He said to me, 'Don't do that!' but I just ignored him."
"He said to me, 'Don't do that' but I just ignored him."

You retain the starting capital letter in the quotation.

I would probably write this as "He told me 'Don't do that!' but I just ignored him."
