I am reading an essay about the evolution of the british society during the Industrial Revolution and it says that there wasn't anything that frame-breakers could do that would alter the course towards modern capitalism...
The "frame-breakers" were weavers resisting the introduction of new technology, and did so by smashing the machines in the hope that they would prevent their use. Their belief was that because the machines worked faster and more efficiently, the workers would lose their jobs. They are more usually known as "Luddites".
