| Could you explain me the difference between like and as in the following sentences: 1. Everyone is sick at home. Our home is like a hospital. 2. During the war this hotel was used as a hospital. or 4. What a beautiful house. It's like a palace. 5. Why " What a beautiful house. It's as a palace." is wrong? or 6. You should have done it like this. 7. You should have done it as I showed you. or 8. Why you say "As you know, it's Tom's birthday the next week." and not: 9. Like you know, it's Tom's birthday the next week." Are there exactly rules or I have to hear my inner voice? Would you help em? V. |

| Hi Anglika, Thank you for your operative reply. Really and truly, I should like your wholesome explanatory notes to find favorable place for development in my mind. Your detail elucidations and relevant correction make me think that English language is very sophisticated and tricky language. It requires a special knowledge and exceptional mastery, respectively zealously learning and insistent exercises. If you meet this requirements, the using of English language would be like a participation in a pleasant play, which will enjoy yourself. Thank you for your efforts and for the opportunity to do this exercise. V. |
