Default knock three times

Hi there.

1. What does 'how in my silence i adored you' mean? Is 'I adore you in silence' a common usage?

2. 'read how many times i saw you'
Does 'read' mean (the girl) reading the note attached on the string?

Thanks in advance.

The Song

hey girl whatcha doin down there
dancing alone every night while I live right above you
i can hear your music playin
i can feel your body swayin
one floor below me you don't even know me
I love you

chorus
Oh my darlin
knock three times on the ceiling if you want me
twice on the pipe if the answer is no
oh my sweetness (knock, knock, knock)
means you'll meet me in the hallway
twice on the pipe means you ain't gonna show

if you look out your window tonite
pulling the string with the note thats attached to my heart
read how many times i saw you
how in my silence i adored you
and only in my dreams did that wall between us come apart

chorus
Oh my darlin
knock three times on the ceiling if you want me
twice on the pipe if the answer is no
oh my sweetness (knock, knock, knock)
means you'll meet me in the hallway
twice on the pipe means you ain't gonna show

Hi, Nefertiti!

Yes, 'in my silence I adored you'...essentially means that the man has adored the girl for quite some time but has never had the courage to verbalize his feelings toward her. 'I adore you in silence' is more poetic than common usage.
Does 'read' mean (the girl) reading the note attached on the string? Yes, the man is still incapable of verbalizing his feelings to the lady he adores so he is going to try to capture her heart with a written note.
Isn't love silly?

Cheers,
