Spelling out a date...

Greetings .. we are working on the wording of our wedding invitation. In spelling out the year, should it be "Two thousand eight" or "Two thousand and eight"? Or, is either one grammatically correct and acceptable?

Look at the Web site for Crane wedding invitations - they have all sorts of clues for how to write these things out.

I wouldn't spell the date out. It looks dreadful. Use the conventional system of 00 month 2008.

Hi Anglika!
While I might agree with you about the dreadful part, I do believe it is traditional to "spell it out"

I guess it depends on how traditional one wants to be!

Traditional where?

The only place I have ever seen it spelled out in this way is on a contract, and I have received wedding invitations from all over the world.

Yikes! Well, when I had mine done here (by a long-established reputable invitation company!) in Victoria B.C., I was told it was the "traditional" way to do it and all the samples were done that way. I just did a quick google search and all the samples I found also had the year "spelled out"...
The samples included an "and" by the way (for Todd)
