Hi all,

Which are correct?

(a) I am angry at him for not telling me the truth.
= I am angry at him because he does not tell me the truth. (or)
= I am angry at him because he did not tell me the truth.

(b) I am angry at him for not having told me the truth.
= I am angry at him because he did not tell me the truth.(or)
= I am angry at him because he has not told me the truth.(or)
= I am angry at him because he had not told me the truth.

Thank you very much!

What is the difference between the following sentences?

(1) After I studied, I went to bed. >and<

= I am angry at him because he does not tell me the truth.
= I am angry at him because he did not tell me the truth (eg. yesterday).
They're all correct, though their meaning differ slightly.

= I am angry at him because he has not told me the truth.
Correct.

Quote:
= I am angry at him because he had not told me the truth.
This one is gramatically incorrect.

Quote:
(1) After I studied, I went to bed. >and<
(2) After I had studied, I went to bed.
2) is correct, I don't think 1) is.

Not necessarily. If the lie occurred before another even in the past, the past perfect could be correct. More cotext is needed for this one.

In my opinion, both are correct. The past perfect tense is fine there, but it isn't really necessary because of the preposition "after".

Right.

"I am angry at him because he had not told me the truth before the whole thing came out".
Is that correct?

That is correct. Even if the more recent past event was identified in a previous sentence, the past perfect can be used.

John wrecked the car last, but he didn't bother to mention it at breakfast. I discovered the accident when I opened the garage. I am angry with him because he had not told me the truth.
