Some 2974 victims were killed in the process, ALTHOUGH the exact numbers of people died remained unknown.

Can I use "although" in the above situation?

Welcome to the forums.

If you had said "It is believed that xxxx...", then "although" will be fine.

To use both "some" and "although" is tautologous.
