I try my best to answer all my email/emails, but I do miss some messages at times.


Should I use email or emails in the above sample? Thanks.

I think nowadays the noun ‘email’ is considered a count noun and hence ‘emails’ is appropriate in your sentence. ‘All my emails’ means ‘all my electronic messages’.

The dictionary lists 'emails' as the correct plural for 'email'.

However, the jury of popular opinion might still be deliberating this question. To me, it is awkward to say 'I will check my emails'. I prefer to say 'I will check my email'...email as a collective group of messages.

A greater question is which spelling of the word do you prefer? Do you prefer the un-hyphenated 'email' or 'e-mail' with the hyphen? I think 'e-mail' looks more impressive and will cause the least amount of confusion when non-native speakers try to pronounce the word.

I agree with everyone's comments and I think "email" is now being used like "mail" (or "post" in BrE) and "emails" like "letters", so in this particular context either seems o.k.!

I am afraid that I check my email when I am online, rather than e-mail on-line.
