Default a half a mile

Hi there.

"We are located a half a mile south of the Library."

Is the quote above the same as "we are located half a mile south ..." ?
(i.e. a half a mile ?= half a mile = 0.5 mile)

Thanks in advance.

Default Re: a half a mile

Yes, in American English we use all three: a half mile, half a mile and a half a mile. We also say [a] half of a mile.
