When I was in junior... When I attended junior... When I was a pupil in junior...
We would not in these contexts require "a" unless there was a specific reason to indicate the type of school.

I could also say : When I was a junior high school student,RIGHT?
Actually, this is not my statement, I'm just gathering some info on how I could reprove this statement.
I think it should be "in"instead of "a".

I think it should be "in"instead of "a". If I understand you right, then "in junior high school" is right, and the inclusion of "a" is unnecessary.
