Question Regular Vs Irregular verbs

Does anybody know, by any chance, how many regular and irregular verbs are there in English?. If not, what is the proportion of irregular to regular ones?
Students usually want to know the answer and I thought it would be nice if I could find it out.
Thanks.

Our list of irregular verbs has just over six hundred and I haven't seen a bigger list, though there are probably some that we have missed. There will certainly be many more regular ones that irregular ones, but I have never seen an attempt to compile an exhaustive list of them.

I've done a bit of "Googling" on your behalf, and although I couldn't find out how many regular verbs there are ("Thousands" was the only quantity I could come up with) I did find out that there are 619 irregular verbs, some of which I understand to be obsolete. Hope this helps. I believe you can download the list of irregular verbs from this site.

It's true that some are obsolete and others very obscure; the public list contains a couple of hundred of the more common ones. We were trying to build up as comprehensive a list as possible in the Members' Area.

This post is definitely old but I have found an interesting page so I thought I'd share it with you. There's basically a list of irregular verbs with conjugation. I'm not sure how many of them there are but it seems quite a lot.
