    Default PWA"s"?

As all the letters of AIDS are written in capitals,
why is the "s" in PWAs in low case?

It's plural, the same as CDs- it doesn't stand for anything.

Yes people is plural. What isn't plural is AIDS. Adquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome. This is singular because it it's the same syndrome they all have.

People With Aids can also be Person With Aids. The use of the lowercase s is to specify the fact that it is plural (such as in persons).

I agree with the other posts. :D

In addition, PWA is an acronym, a single unit, so in order to make that unit plural, add -s, like this,

PWA (singular; meaning, Person With AIDS)
PWAs (plural; meaning, more than one Person With AIDS)

The -s attached to PWAs means, more than one. The -s doesn't stand for people and it doesn't stand for syndrome. It's the "S" in AIDS, as the other poster mentioned, stands for Syndrome.

    All the best,

    Ah~~Ok, now I got it. :D

How about "valentine" with "v" in low case?
I guess it refers to St. Valentine's Day only when it's with a capital "V".
Then what does this "valentine" mean as in:

The color red was chosen for its "connection to blood and the idea of of passion -- not only anger, but love, like a valentine," as stated by Frank Moore of Visual AIDS. ...(talking about the red ribbon)
