verb or noun
My student wrote," I like it when we have conversations with the class".
For my assignment I must identfy the main fault and suggest activities to help her in the future with this problem.I felt she has confused the verb 'to speak' with the noun 'conversation' . Please help.

Carladiane,
" I like it when we have conversations with the class". This sentence is correct.
A husband might say to his wife: "I like it when we have conversations with our children."
What do you think your student should have written?
Cheers,

When one has a conversation "with" someone it seems to be a little more intimate. A class is not particularly intimate.
My way of saying it would be, "I like it when we have discussions in class."
I don't know of any rule about it, though.
It is better, in my opinion to say, "I like it when we have conversations IN class;" or "I like it when we have conversations WITH the class."
You probably wouldn't say, "I like it when we have conversations with church;" or "I like it when we have conversations with the business;" or "I like it when we have conversations with school."
