In all good conscience, I would have to say that the supplied information is inadequate to formulate a concise opinion.
In other words, the paragraphs prior to, inclusive of, and following that sentence, would be necessary to make a call as to whether either is more or less appropriate.
Crept has the connotation that you are intent on accomplishing something via your stealth, whereas, slipped is more indicative of trying to avoid detection.
You would not be entirely incorrect using either in most cases, but my feeling is that you are looking for an explanation of the subtleties.
