This doesn't make sence in English.
In what context was it said?

The context is "Since then, it has turned itself into a play on Linux."

Ah. I see.
We can understand this sentence part by part.
Firstly, "to turn oneself into" is to change oneself. In this case the sentence isn't used literally, because this product cannot change itself, instead, we can understand it as "It has been turned into".
Secondly "a play on" here means "a variation of".
So the sentence means "Since then, it has changed into a variation of Linux."

Thank you all for your help. Next time I will give more information about the question I ask.
Here "IT" refers to a company which, I guess, is doing business with Linux.
