Question idiom

Dear Sir,
I am wondering if there is an idiom describing a wife who likes to control everything and seems to be powerful in the family. The husband has to obey what she says.
Your answer will be much appreciated.

Three words that can be used in this context come to mind:

Termagant

Virago

Battle-axe

They all have connotations of aggression so may not be what you want.
