Euphemisms are a funny group of words. They never mean what you want, and can always be interpreted in a different way, so maybe you won't agree with my suggestions. How about these three:
recuperating from work
worn out
taking a rest

Dear Mrs. Soandso:

Your son is not lazy, he's just not self-motivated; he's not task-oriented; he has a difficult time focussing on goal-completion. Oh wait, he is lazy.
