Default transitive and intransitive verbs

Hi. Would you please telll me that in the following sentence the verb is transitive or intransitive and why.
The sentence is:
Shut the door.

i am only a student.

as far as i can remeber a transitive verb is that one that demands an object. an intransitive one doesn't.

for example:

"to rise" is intrasitive. u don't need to say anything else for the sentence to make sense. it doesn't demand any object.

"to raise" is transitive because it demands an object. who raises, raises something, like an arm, for example.

i wonder if i am right...
