Eliza remembers everything exactly as if it ______ yesterday.
A. was happening B. happens
C. had happened D. happened
which and why????
The correct answer is happened. The adverb of time yesterday requires the use of past tense.
You cannot use past perfect because it usually states:
--an action completed before a certain point in the past:
e.g.When I arrived , he had just left
or
-- an action completed in an unspecified time before a certain point in the past:
She had lost her car keys so she had to take a taxi.
or
-- in Indirect Speech:
"She left ten minutes ago"
He told me that she had left ten minutes before.

Isn't it Subjective Mood ?
Good question!
This is the subjunctive about the past.
After as if / as though we use Past Perfect when referring to a real or imaginary action in the past
Thus, I have to change the verb tense:
Eliza remembers everything as if it had happened yesterday.
Yes, you are right. Anyway, I`ll wait for some native teachers` answers
thank you. so will I.
