Dear teachers,
Would you please tell me who is Jean Libman Block? I couldn't find her biography on the net. Is she an American journalist or biographer? Is this how you pronounce her name ?
/ʤi:n libmən blɔk/
See you soon,
Hela
Can you give some kind of reference for her - a book title or something? Where did you come across her?
Good morning Anglika,
I was given a text on Levi Strauss written by her to translate. By the way how do you pronounce "Levi Stauss" ? /li:vai straus/ ?
His name is pronounced "LEE-vy Strowss" (last name rhymes with "mouse").
Jean Libman Block once wrote a piece for Reader's Digest about Levi Strauss. She is also the author and co-author of many books (look her on Amazon.com), but I cannot find any sort of biographical information on her, sorry.
Hello Ouisch, thank you for your help.
So you pronounce the proper name Levi /li:vi/ = leevi (long then short /i/ ?)
but you pronounce the pair of trousers /li:vais/ = (long /i/ then the diphthong /ai/ ?)
See you,
Hela
